It is perhaps a little unfair of me to include sketches of family members and none of me. It is also unfair that I include Sal Shuel's memories of being drawn by her father and none of my own. This first one is in a sketch book from 1975 and shows me trying my own hand at doing some art work. The resulting oil painting of a bowl of fruit is without talent, but Dad clearly had fun sketching me painting fruit!
The next image is one of those tricky moments when an artist has a moment of inspiration, in this case with a clash of colours. I was stuck on that staircase for nearly an hour until Mum decided that she needed to go upstairs and I really wanted my breakfast!
The final image is one that was done to try to get the facial angle right from the previous sketches and was done a while later. Any enthusiasm from me for this particular picture was long gone, as is clear from the sketch - 12 year olds are not always keen on this sort of thing!
