It has been a challenging week weather-wise, with heavy rain at the weekend and gales, then a day of calm, and then heavy snow for two days, and now it is sunny again. Last night, with the snow and clear skies, as you would expect, there was also a very sharp frost.
This afternoon however, as I look out over the fields and wood at the back of the rental cottage that is my home this week, it is beautiful. The sun is warm on my back, the air is clear and fresh and there is an excitement to the air.
As I watch, two buzzards float over the woods, spiralling around each other and calling out. I like to think that they are screaming sweet nothings at each other, but it could just as easily be pointing out where there are good bits of nest building material. In between their cries, there is also the knocking of a woodpecker in the wood.
As I turn back to the cottage, I am also aware of small birds calling to each other - or possibly hurling insults at me. As I don't understand, I don't mind! La vie est belle!
